Regulator aims to award 3G licences early next year
A representative of Thailand’s National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Sethaporn Cusripituck, told reporters this week that the regulator expects to issue 3G mobile licences in the first quarter of next year, and that it plans to select an advisor to draft qualification criteria for concessions later this month. In July the NTC’s chairman stated that up to four 3G licences would be auctioned in a process starting in October. Currently, the only cellco holding 3G spectrum is state-owned minor GSM player Thai Mobile, which has so far failed to roll out W-CDMA services.
